Winners but not Champions
After a long and exciting build up the EDP Food Awards came to a close on Wednesday evening. Watercress lane had been nominated by Poultec to be in the Plough to Plate category and having made it through to the final three were invited to the awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn.
The build up for us started back in June when we were informed of our nomination, and learning that we had made it through the initial cut from 16 nominations to 7 our excitement began to grow. This led to a visit from the judges of our category to the Farm in July. An enjoyable and informative stroll round saw the judges leave with smiles and new knowledge. This left a very positive yet reserved feeling for Watercress Lane but on the receipt of a letter in August inviting us to the awards evening as 1 of the final 3, thoughts of a victory were difficult to quash.
The evening began with a wonderful meal created with local produce, followed by the awards ceremony. Realisation that our category was the second from last to be addressed led to a nervous wait. When the time arrived and the winners reviled nerves and excitement had peaked, sadly to be met with disappointment. Watercress lane where not victorious this year, though realising the competitors many years experience in their fields it was then obvious that to have gotten this far was some achievement and a victory in itself.
Watercress Lane would like to congratulate all the champions and finalists involved this year, and also the organisers, judges, sponsors and the EDP. A truly enjoyable evening was had and we left feeling like winners......roll on next year.
