Scone to be a chance to try Duck Eggs

Watercress Lane Duck Eggs are going to be apearing at the prestigious Wroxham Barns Scone Competition on the 26th September. The competition will be held at the Barns on Tunstead Road, Hoveton, and is part of the Norfolk Food Festival.

Previous years have brought some interesting flavours to the judges palate, including Marmite, salami or marmalade. As well as the interesting freestyle entrants there are the more traditional fruit, cheese and plain scones. The competition will enable the wonderful cooks of Norfolk to show of their culinary skills and prove that the tricky art of scone making is still alive and that traditional British afternoon tea is as good as ever.

Judges will be made up of EDP head of features Sarah Hardy, Karen Buchanan from BBC Radio Norfolk, Jane Miller from Produced In Norfolk and our very own Gavin Fisher from Watercress Lane Duck Eggs. With Wroxham Barns already useing Watercress Lane Duck Eggs for much of their baking we felt this would be a great opportunity to inform many other great cooks in East Anglia of the benifits of baking with duck eggs. On the Sunday Watercress Lane will have an area at the barns for the public to come and taste duck eggs and learn about their qualities, provenance and the 'Blue Duck' scheme that we have introduced. With our own chef cooking some delicious scrambled egg on site, a selection of localy produced duck egg cup cake's and also some devine Portuguese custard tarts made with duck eggs, we are sure that there will be something to tickle the fancy of you all.

There will be eggs on sale, recipe cards available, including one for the Portuguese custard tarts, and also the opportunity to taste the wonderfull rich flavour of Duck Eggs.
